Teamwork!
Team collaboration is one of the most important aspects of engineering. It's a concept that has been drilled in our heads since our first semester of Introduction to Engineering. Collaboration brings both bad things and good things, but it is up to me as well as my teammates to work around the bad things and emphasize the good.
Collaboration requires:
One instance in which I had to navigate collaboration was when I worked with a team on my Quantitative Analysis Lab Project. The purpose of the project was to determine if a Pharmaceutical company was falsifying the amount of calcium in the company's pills. This project spanned over five weeks and required 3 lab experiments and a write up, all of which we had to create from scratch. Early problems arose when one or two members couldn't make the meetings. In order to avoid this issue, I decided to suggest using google drive. Google drive is a collaborative technology that allows multiple people to work on a document simultaneously from different places. This effectively solved our immediate problem, but it soon became clear that the team needed to also needed to meet in person. We would arrive early to class and stay late because it seemed to be the only time suitable. As the project continued on, we were able to split up the work and put it together on the google drive site. Our team worked very efficiently in that we could offer advice on each other's sections and then fix them without any bickering or confrontation.
Overall, working in a team can require jumping over hurdles, but with the right amount of motivation and innovation, collaboration can be a great route to accomplishing tasks.I know that I will be able to apply the skills I've gained in collaboration to become a successful engineer.
